The Light You Were Born To Carry
Earlier this month, I started writing sonnets. Most of my sonnets have been about carrying and seeing the strength that shines inside of you. I would like to share my thoughts on a sonnet that I recently wrote called “ The Light You Were Born To Carry.”
I believe that we were put on this earth for a reason. One of those reasons is to reveal the light that we were born to carry. You carry a unique light within you that no one else can carry within their heart. When you discover all that is within you, you can also discover the hope that you have.
You have to learn how to see your own light when others don’t see it. I have come across people who didn’t fully understand my light. However, when I was in high school, I experienced insensitive comments directed towards me. Before getting to know me, assumptions were made about me about what I can or can’t do.
These comments came from staff members, not students. I had a teacher who stood in front of the classroom and made an insensitive joke about people like me, and in that moment, I realized that they didn’t see my light. They didn’t take the time to see the light that I have.
The light that I carry comes from my faith. My faith keeps me focused and grounded in all aspects of my life. Faith is the reason why I have gained confidence in myself, and I know I am enough. Faith helps me through my challenges. Because I have come through these challenges, I am able to walk into the person I am now.
This light within me has reminded me that I can do anything, no matter how difficult my journey may be. I can walk with my head held high. If it wasn’t for my faith, I would not have the courage to share my story in hopes that other people also find their light.
As a motivational speaker and poet, my mission is to encourage people to understand the light they carry.
Not everyone will see the light that you carry, and that’s okay, because what matters most is how you let your light shine. Always let the light within you shine. Let your light shine everywhere you go. Don’t dim the light that shines through you. Your light will shine through someone’s darkness.
